BBC TV series Sherlock is a time machine

by Mattias Boström January 30, 2011

When the BBC's television series " Sherlock "was British premiere last summer so it was raised to the skies by viewers and critics. The men behind the series writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, had succeeded in doing what no one thought possible - to move the Sherlock Holmes stories to modern times and make it work perfectly.

Andres Lokko writes today in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet on how the details of the series is so admirably selected, in environments and in dress. The DN was recently a fashion intelligence based on what the men in the series is wearing. And many have pointed out how good the photo is, and other innovative ways to bring the plot forward.

But for me who have been Sherlock Holmes fanatic since his teens is the attraction to another level. How often have I dreamed of traveling back to the 1890s, for on-site experience Sherlock Holmes London? And to have to queue in which the newspaper seller in The Strand Magazine began publishing Conan Doyle's first Holmes short stories. The stories of Sherlock Holmes was a hyper-modern written - few writers of that era is now just as easy to read and exciting. Everything is so incredibly efficient told, never a long-running environmental descriptions or unnecessary side plots. Conan Doyle was in many ways ahead of his time, not least in the description of forensic science that barely been invented yet.

Any time machine that takes me to the 1890's, learn never invented. But if I can make it to Sherlock Holmes, so he'll have and the stories get to me.

It is an awesome privilege to experience the Sherlock Holmes in the same way as readers in the 1890s: hyper-modern, style conscious, effectively told the latest forensic technology. So felt the stories then - and so we experience the BBC's modernization now.
